Don’t Be Humbled By Hoops Betting

Well the craziness we call March Madness has arrived and I bet many of you are just frothing at the mouth in anticipation. With that I mind I will give a few tips that will let YOU control your own destiny, not the tournament.

DON’T LET THE SEEDINGS FOOL YOU

One of the many factors I notice people have trouble with in the tournament is people tend to bet based on team seeding. This is hogwash and my advice to you is to ignore the seeds when wagering. The only number that matters is the point spread and if you take a look at the brackets you will see the March Madness odds sometimes don’t correlate with the rankings. You will find a 13 seed is only a small underdog against a four seed. Does that mean the four seed is a great bet just because they are a four seed? No it doesn’t.

CONFERENCE DOES MATTER

To continue on the previous point, sometimes you will find teams who finished in the middle of the pack in their conference ranked higher than teams who finished high in their own conference. This is a direct indication of the strength of some conferences over others. Example: The Big East has eight teams in the tourney and if you were to scour your March Madness bracket you will notice that is unmatched by any other conference. So, teams that are ranked higher in their own conference may find themselves as an underdog to a team who finished much lower in the Big East. So be wary of the conferences when selecting a team to wager on and definitely take it into consideration.

MAKE SURE YOUR OWN OPINION IS THE ONE THAT COUNTS

Everyone from Grandma Ethel to the family dog will have an opinion on the tournament. Analysts will over analyze, pundits will be pundits etc. Bottom line is; do not let yourself get overloaded with too many different voices, or making a clear decision will be next to impossible.
